Today, parts of the Krav Maga training at the Krav Maga Institute in Cologne were shown in a short documentary about the Israeli self-defense system in the program “Law and Taxes” on the news channel N-TV.

Basically, the short interview with the N-TV legal expert from the German Lawyers’ Association Ulrich Sommer and the Lead Instructor from the Krav Maga Institute, Carsten Draheim, was about the extent to which Krav Maga techniques may be used in attack and self-defense situations. Here, the principle of “don’t get hurt” – don’t let yourself get hurt – which is a fundamental principle in defensive Krav Maga classes, applies. The proven “fight or flight” principle helps here; because if you manage to survive the situation unharmed, if you can run away, this is certainly by far the best solution. If you don’t make it, then defend yourself with all means – e.g. with the help of so-called “common objects”, i.e. everyday things (in the TV report the blue chair) which you can use for defence. Don’t fall into the “freeze” state and be passive, because giving up is never an option!
